Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka has been arrested and charged with sexual assaulting a Sydney lady.
Police confirmed the worldwide cricket star, 31, was arrested at a Sussex Road resort about 1am on Sunday over the alleged incident in Sydney’s east final week.
Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Intercourse Crimes Squad and Japanese Suburbs Police Space Command commenced a joint investigation following stories a 29-year-old lady had been sexually assaulted at a house in Rose Bay.
Police allege the lady had exchanged messages with Mr Gunathilaka for days by way of a web-based courting app.
The pair met on Wednesday and the skilled cricketer sexually assaulted her, in line with police allegations.
A criminal offense scene examination was undertaken on the deal with on Saturday.
Mr Gunathilaka was taken to Sydney Police Station and charged with 4 counts of sexual activity with out consent.
He was refused bail to look at Parramatta Bail Courtroom on Sunday.
